EU Driver Training
The EU’s rules on drivers’ hours and the Road Transport (Working Time) Regulations (RTWTR) were put in place to keep professional drivers safe and healthy at work. Here at Driver Hire Uxbridge, we offer a half-day training course to make sure drivers and the companies they work for are following these important bits of EU legislation.
What are the EU rules on drivers’ hours and RTWTR?
These are the rules and laws that govern how much and what types of work a driver can undertake over a daily, weekly, two week and longer periods. They also specify how much rest must be taken between shifts and over longer periods. The ultimate responsibility lies with the driver, know the rules and if you have any concerns call the office and we will clarify your position.
The EU says drivers can drive a maximum of nine hours a day (this can be extended to 10 hours twice a week), which is no more than 56 hours a week and 90 hours a fortnight. This is to ensure drivers of goods vehicles, buses and coaches can retain their focus while on the road, minimising the risk of accidents caused by tiredness or loss of concentration.
EU driving training from Driver Hire Uxbridge
Our comprehensive course on EU driving regulations lasts for three and a half hours, during which drivers learn about all aspects of the legislation. The module can be used in combination with another three-and-a-half-hour course, to make up the seven hours of training needed to complete Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC). Here are the areas that will be covered in our EU driving training session:
- Introduction to drivers’ hours
- The legal framework
- EC Regulation 561/2006 (EU drivers’ hours)
- Road Transport (Working Time) Regulations 2005
- UK Domestic Rules 1968: The domestic drivers’ rules cover most passenger and goods vehicles that aren’t subject to the EU rules.
- Review exercises: Once we have delivered our course, we will give drivers some comprehensive review exercises to complete, to ensure the training was effective.
